Aaron Judge still seeking historic 62nd homerun

Aaron Judge still seeking historic 62nd homerun

Both fans of the New York Yankees and football fans who've grown tired of the ESPN at-bat cut-ins will have to wait at least another day for Aaron Judge to potentially make history. After going hitless in back-to-back games against the Baltimore Orioles, Aaron Judge remained at 61 homeruns, with opportunity quickly dwindling. Although Judge still has four games left against the lowly Rangers to set the historic mark, there is reason to believe accomplishing the feat may be farfetched.

Simply put, nobody is trying to be the "guy that let Aaron Judge get no. 62." Pitchers have elected to either walk the Yankees' MVP frontrunner with uncompetitive pitches or be extremely delicate in their approach, with a steady diet of breaking balls low and away. Aaron Judge has walked at least once in each of his last eight games and has amassed 14 walks total. Entering today's game against the Orioles, Judge had walked 28.7% of the time since September 5th, and had a 37% walk rate since hitting number 60. Teams have made it loud and clear - they're going to let somebody else in the lineup beat them.

If there's one team that by their own incompetence would serve a beachball to Aaron Judge, it may just be the Texas Rangers. Their pitching staff ranks in the bottom third in the MLB between both earned run average and opponent's batting average. All it can take is one poorly-located pitch for no. 62 to be fifteen rows deep and make a random fan an instant millionaire. Plenty of eyes will be on Aaron Judge as he and the Yankees close out the season and whether he can etch his name in the history books amid this dramatic chase.
